{ town mouse } sunday fun…

One of my 2010 resolutions was to take more pictures, and while I am trying to get more out of my very lovely Canon, I don’t have it with me all the time… but I do have my iPhone.  So, armed with the CameraBag app and it’s magical myriad of filters, as recommended by one of my favourite iPhone photographers, Saltina, I hit the streets with my sister this weekend to get some practice. OK, we may have been shopping too, but it really was all in the name of photo taking, honest…
A black lace tee gets it’s first outing.
Me & the Minker.
King’s Rd. Spot the cow.
Lights in Office.
The shoes the Minker ummmed & ahhhhhed about.
{should have bought them Tinkerton!}
The obligatory coffee stop.
(which drives me round the bend! I don’t drink coffee and I don’t like faffing!)
For those who enjoy a bit of celeb spotting, that’s Jenny Ecair reflected in the window!
The new Anthropologie, it would have been rude not to, right?
Pretty olive tree. In the garden. Inside.
More Anthropologie lovin’.
How damn cute is that yellow butter dish??? I am in love!
Spring flowers.
Spring fashion & the Sunday papers.
A pretty good day, wouldn’t you say?
Hope you all had a lovely weekend too.

{ town mouse } I wanna be like Grace Kelly…

Coming soon, to a museum near me, the wardrobe of Grace Kelly.
Yup, you heard right folks… dresses, film costumes, her Oscar gown, jewellery, hats and even the original Hermes Kelly Bag…
Alongside the 35 haute couture gowns from the 1960s and 70s by her favourite couturiers Dior, Balenciaga, Givenchy, and Yves St Laurent, will be the lace ensemble she wore for her civil marriage ceremony to Prince Rainier in 1956.
I think I might have to pack a little bag and just move into the V&A for a month or two, just to soak it all in!

{ town mouse } new nest needed, must have bath tub…

Hi folks, sorry I’ve been M.I.A for a few days. I wish I could say that I’ve been on some wonderful vacation or working on an exciting project, but, truth be told, I’ve trudging the streets of London, flat hunting. A job I hate more than washing dishes (which I really hate!)
I should be back with you all tomorrow with some prettiness and and such.
In the meantime, I highly recommend popping on over to Ted and watching this video.

{ town mouse } the V word…

Here we go again. V day is almost upon us, and single girls up and down the country are sighing dejectedly at the sight of gooey couples gazing at each other across fixed-price dinners (how much??), men squeezing onto the tube with oversized bunches of red roses (kill me now) and huge boxes of chocolates (eurgh). All the while secretly wishing that someone was wasting all that money on them.
I’ve never really been a fan of V day, but at least this year it falls on a Sunday, so I can stay in my burrow and indulge in all of may favourite little weekend rituals all the while pretending that it’s not really out there…
…preparation starts on Saturday night by making up my bed with my favourite bed linen, freshly washed and smelling delicious.
…Sunday morning definitely requires breakfast in bed. Something involving bacon, or maybe eggs Benedict,  along with a big stack of Sunday newspapers which, if I am really organised, I will get on Saturday night (ah, the joys of living in London).
There will then follow some of the following…
…painting my nails…
 …afternoon tea while watching Pride & Prejudice…
…reading a good book with Molly (not my cat, she just stops be now and then).
All rounded off with something finger lickin’ for supper, a scalding hot bath and a movie in bed.
Hope you all have a good one. x

{ town mouse } all quiet on the western front…

Hi folks, sorry it’s been a bit quiet here today. I’ve been off indulging in guilty pleasures…
My beautiful bestie and I were at the Agua spa at the Sanderson Hotel having ourselves a little pampering, courtesy of another great friend who had treated us both as a thank you for contributing to her wedding.
The space is quite something, all white and no walls… the “rooms” are separated by billowing white curtains that reach right to the ceiling of the double height chill out room, and weave a maze of nooks and crannies. Individual cubicles with plump white arm chairs to sink into after the stresses of a massage, a pleasantly scorching steam room and very glamorous changing rooms.
We had such a wonderful time. Candice having a well earned day off from being mum, me being forcibly removed from my computer and stashing my iPhone in my locker. We sat and chatted (until we got told off for being too loud!), so we went into the steam room and chatted some more!
Yummy Thai food for lunch and a bit of shopping rounded off our day. Bliss.
It turns out I didn’t realise I wasn’t quite myself until I started getting back there.

{ town mouse } one of my favourite views…

…is looking out of the plane and seeing this…

…it means I’m minutes away from touching down at LAX, and from there, it’s just a hop, skip & jump to Santa Barbara, the loveliest place on earth!

Oh to be there now…

Beautiful painting by Peter Alexander, found via English Muse.

{ town mouse } dashing white sergeants…

Oh what a Saturday night…

…10 friends went to Hammersmith Town Hall to spin, whirl, stomp and clap the night away.

The official reason was to celebrate the upcoming birthday of one Miss Lucy Jane Squirrell, but really it was just an excuse to go and throw ourselves around in the arms of men in kilts.

The London Ceilidh Club is my new favourite London discovery. 200+ people in a huge town hall, whooping, grinning, sweating (there’s no avoiding it, it’s hard work) and flying around to the sounds of a live band with fiddles, flutes and drums.

If you’re a Londoner, I cannot recommend it highly enough, we’re all planning our next visit, and they do singles evenings too.

My only mistake was not taking my camera, but in hindsight, I didn’t stop dancing long enough to take pictures!

{ town mouse } sugar and spice…

This afternoon I went with my cousin to pick up her wedding dress, we sipped champagne as she floated around the rather grand townhouse atelier in her absolutely gorgeous dress and her Jimmy Choo Couture shoes ( I know, I’d hate her if I didn’t love her so much!!)

We then went for sushi, and swapped stories on the kind of crazy that only weddings can induce in otherwise sane family members. After a little shopping, we went our separate ways and I headed off down Piccadilly to catch the bus. Walking past the Royal Academy, I decided to take a closer look at the Anish Kapoor installation in the courtyard.

I have to admit that is is truly mesmerising. Considering it was a very grey afternoon, and the rain was just beginning it’s descent, it still managed to hold me captive for quite some time. For once I didn’t have my camera on me, so my trusty iPhone had to step into the breech. Not too shabby for overcast London Light. I strongly recommend a visit if you’re in the neighbourhood.

On my way out I noticed this rather elaborate post box…

Years ago, I worked a stone’s throw from the Royal Academy, and if I had noticed this treasure then, I would have gone out of my way everyday to post the office mail here instead of the standard issue pillar box at the end of the road. Just for the beauty of it.

As I walked out of the courtyard the rain really started to make it’s presence felt, so I ducked into Burlington Arcade and came face to face with the tiny, gilded wonder that is the Laduree shop. I must confess that it only took me a few seconds to decide that if I was ever going to loose my Laduree virginity, this was as good a time as any. I nipped into the shop behind another two customers, taking up the only space left, (it’s that small a shop,) and stood trying to make my mind up. In the end I opted for a box of 8, amongst them were chocolate, vanilla, coconut, pistachio, orange blossom and red berry macaroons.

And then I smiled all the way home, swinging the delicate green and gold bag in my hand.
By the time I got home, I was rather rain soaked, but within minutes I was in my dreamy soft striped Ralph Lauren PJ’s, in my armchair with a huge mug of steaming tea, my sugary goodies and the new Vogue.

I can’t be the only one having fun, what did you do today?
